Editorially Yours

New Year, New Format

January 11th, 2012

It has been almost a year since I started writing the Editorially Yours column, which I have enjoyed immensely.  Although it isn’t a two-way conversation, it does make me feel closer to our readers.  I share a few thoughts or recent events, as if I were meeting a colleague for coffee.

As I was considering topics for this week’s article, it occurred to me that it was time for a change within Editorially Yours.  Publishing the article on Wednesday provides a fine highlight at the middle of the workweek.  However, it is beginning to feel stale to me.  To combat the potential boredom, I considered some options for making EY more interesting:

  • Publish the column on a biweekly basis.
  • Publish the column on a Friday.
  • Publish the column on Monday.

The first option, although an option, really didn’t stand a chance.  Wasabi Media Group publishes new content on every property multiple times each week.  By reducing this column to a biweekly status is a disservice to the company as a whole.

Publishing on a Friday had an initial warm and fuzzy feel.  I could reflect on my week, both personally and as CEO of Wasabi Media.  However, the more I considered this option the more that it felt like a cop-out.  By Friday, our loyal readers already know the highlights of the week.

With two vetoes, I began thinking about the pros and cons of publishing on Monday.  The good news is that for this idea I only thought of pros.  Publishing Editorially Yours on Monday would allow me to highlight great articles that would be published during the week, giving our loyal readers a sneak peek.  Plus, what could be a better way for me to start the week than by reviewing what lies ahead?

I look forward to next Monday and being able to share the best of WMG with you.
